Community Psychology

Community Psychology takes an ecological approach to wellbeing, seeking to understand how systems of family, work, community, and structural power influence mental health.

The tradition of Community Psychology in Australia has a longstanding connection to social justice activism and action-based research. Through these processes, the discipline promotes advocacy and empowerment within broad historical, social, cultural, economic, and political contexts.

Research and practice in Community Psychology often leads to significant lasting change in areas of social marginalisation such as cross cultural and indigenous issues; domestic violence; disability; LGBTQI+; and climate injustice.
